Uganda launches solar tender for 40 PV-powered water supply projectsAccording to the RFP, in November 2023, Uganda's Ministry of Water and Environmental Conservation launched an auction to invite developers to build 40 solar-powered water supply schemes at 40 sites in the East African country. The four auction lots consisted of: supply, installation and commissioning of 10 PV energy packages for water supply schemes at 10 sites in the middle of the country; supply, installation and commissioning of 10 PV energy packages for water supply schemes at 10 sites in the south-western part of the country; supply, installation and commissioning of 10 PV energy packages for water supply schemes at 10 sites in the southern part of the country; supply, installation and commissioning of 10 PV energy packages for water supply schemes at 10 sites in the eastern part of the country; supply, installation and commissioning of 10 PV energy packages for water supply schemes at 10 sites in the eastern part of the country. The supply, installation and commissioning of 10 photovoltaic energy packages for a water supply scheme at 10 locations in the eastern part of a country. The application processing deadline is January 17, 2024. The WB has provided US$638 million to support new projects for power connection expansion in the Ugandan government sector. This is a five-year initiative to transmit homes, diaspora and relief neighborhoods, and other housing to power projects. According to the World Bank, only 45.2% of the country's 45.85 million people will have access to electricity in 2021. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Uganda's installed photovoltaic capacity at the end of 2022 will be 94 MW. |
